International Friendship Day is a very young holiday. It was formally adopted by the UN General Assembly on April 27, 2011.
Friendship is a deep emotional bond between two people, based on trust, mutual understanding, common interests. A true friend will always support in difficult times, will not envy success with anger, will not compete in who is better and worse. Every person needs a loyal friend - a person who will listen, understand, and help.
The idea of a friendship holiday organized by the UN is based on the importance of international relations, friendly relations between different cultures and peoples. On July 30, in many countries of the world, events are held that promote friendship between individuals, countries, peoples and pay attention to the importance of respectful feelings for all cultures. There are many seminars and lessons on this topic.
Another task of the International Day of Friendship from the point of view of the UN is to attract young people to socially significant activities and the organization of public events.
It should be noted that this is not the only friendship day. June 9 is the international day of friends, but it is not official, no one knows the date of its foundation and the name of the founder. June 25 is the Day of Friendship and Unity of the Slavs.
