Day of the Navy has been celebrated in our country since the days of the Soviet Union. In 1939, by a decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR, the last Sunday of June became a holiday dedicated to military sailors. In the modern history of Russia, this day refers to holidays and memorable dates in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, approved in 1980.
The history of the creation of the country's military fleet goes back to the time of Peter I. This became an urgent need for Russia to overcome foreign domination in the waters of adjacent seas and overcome the country's territorial, political and cultural isolation. However, the first Russian warship was built during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, but only his son, Peter, laid the foundation for the Russian navy, which soon became a formidable force that made it possible to assert the glory and power of Russia, to consolidate and expand its maritime boundaries.
The modern Russian Navy (Navy) is part of its Armed Forces. Today, its task is to protect the country's maritime borders and its interests in the vastness of the World Ocean, to conduct naval combat operations against forces hostile to our state. The Navy includes several operational-strategic formations-fleets: the Black Sea, Pacific, Baltic and Northern, as well as the Caspian Flotilla.
Every year in many cities of Russia the Day of the Navy is celebrated. Festive festivities and fireworks await residents of Vladivostok, Astrakhan, Severomorsk, Sevastopol, St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Moscow. In the capital, they are held in several parks: named after Gorky, Kolomenskoye, on Poklonnaya Gora and in Sokolniki.
In 2012, more than 15 thousand sailors celebrated their professional holiday in Russia. In the listed cities, the places of registration of the ships of the country's navy, solemn parades were held, and in the evening the sky above the sea was colored with fireworks.
According to tradition, on this day, sailors put on a dress uniform, but only those who serve in the Black Sea Fleet have it completely white. Most of the ships of this fleet are located in Sevastopol, so its inhabitants on the day of the holiday were able to see a naval parade of two fleets at once - Russian and Ukrainian. More than 50 thousand people gathered to watch this grandiose spectacle.
