But even then, when the veil was just beginning its existence, it was opaque and made of dense material. And unlike modern ones, she completely covered the bride's face from unkind looks and from the eyes of her future husband. And over time, they began to sew more transparent products with lace from light materials, silk was especially popular. They began to believe that such a veil gives grace, emphasizes the beautiful features of the bride's face.
In Greece, it was thought that a woman wearing a veil emphasizes her husband's power over her and that she belongs to a man. In this case, the veil was to the toes, this indicated the complete submission of the wife to her husband.
It is now generally accepted that a Russian bride should be wearing a white veil. However, in Greece, a yellow veil is worn. And it seems even more unusual that the Romans once wore a red veil. In Ukraine, the veil was not part of the custom; brides wore a wedding wreath decorated with a variety of flowers.
According to custom, after the wedding, the wife had to keep the veil at all times, since it was believed that this thing is a talisman of a happy marriage. People also said that you cannot wear someone else's veil or rent it, because it contains the energy of the previous owner. But a daughter can wear her mother's veil on her wedding day if her marriage was happy.
