October 3 is celebrated as the Day of German Unity. On this day in 1990, the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany officially united and the flag of the already united Germany was raised over the Reichstag. The celebration takes place in turn in each land of the country in one of the cities. In the capital, in front of the Brandenburg Gate, pop concerts are held. As such, the Germans do not hold a military parade, they organize meetings and rallies in the city halls and land parliaments, where they make political speeches.

Oktoberfest is the largest beer festival in the world. It takes place in the Bavarian capital Munich. Starts in September on the penultimate Saturday and ends on the first Sunday in October. The celebration began with the wedding of Princess Teresa and Prince Ludwig I on October 12, 1810. The royal family loved the festivities so much that they ordered them to be held annually. Oktoberfest starts at 11:00 with a festive procession through German streets. At 12:00 in the Teresa meadow, where the celebration takes place, twelve cannon shots are fired. At the same time, the burgomaster of Munich knocks the plug out of the beer barrel and declares the festival open.
