Valentine's Day, or Valentine's Day, celebrated on February 14, is a touching and romantic holiday celebrating love and family values. Saint Valentine - the priest who connects hearts

The life of Saint Valentine, a Roman priest and healer, is inextricably linked with Claudius II, the cruel Roman emperor. During his reign, a rule was introduced in Rome prohibiting, on pain of death, Roman legionnaires from marrying and having a family.

The strictest prohibition could not prevent loving hearts from being together, but it was impossible to find a priest, on pain of death, ready to marry the lovers.

Priest Valentine was not afraid of punishment, and for many years he helped couples in love, under cover of night, perform a sacred ceremony. When the authorities found out about the illegal activities of the priest, he was put in prison and sentenced to an estimated execution. Expecting death, Valentin met the jailer's blind daughter, Julia, and on the eve of his execution wrote her a farewell letter with a declaration of love. After the execution, which took place on February 14, the girl's sight miraculously returned, and she was able to read the letter in which the last words were "Your Valentine".

According to legend, this letter gave rise to the tradition of writing love confessions telling about secret feelings.

Spreading the holiday

Valentine's execution coincided with the holiday of the goddess Juno, the patroness of love and family values. Therefore, the lovers began to secretly celebrate this day in memory of the priest, who for the sake of love lost his life. They wrote little secret Valentine's notes, in which they confessed their love to each other.
