On the threshold of a restaurant or institution where the festivities will take place, the newlyweds are greeted by the parents of the bride and groom after registration. This folk tradition is associated with receiving the obligatory blessing from the older generation for a long and happy life. Without this approval, in Russia, lovers did not dare to marry against the will of their parents.
It is necessary
- - wedding loaf;
- - glasses;
- - wine;
- - an icon;
- - towel;
- - salt shaker.
Instructions
Step 1
Young people should approach their parents. Guests meeting the newlyweds should stand on both sides of the road, forming a living corridor. Newly made spouses should cross themselves three times and bow to their parents in the belt in gratitude for the blessing they were given before the wedding. One of the parents must hold an icon in his hands, and the other - a loaf of bread. Usually, this mission is entrusted to the groom's parents, who, according to custom, accept the bride into their home.
Step 2
The loaf with salt should lie on a new towel, salt in a silver salt shaker. This is due to the old Russian proverb: “Only one salt on the table is for the worse and for poverty. If bread and salt together - this is to wealth and fertility. Young at the same time break off a piece of loaf and lower it into a salt shaker. If the wife is the first to break off a piece of the edge, then she will rule in the house, if the husband tries and gets ahead of her or his piece is larger, then he will become the head of the family. And the simultaneous breaking off, according to legend, symbolizes harmony and coherence.
Step 3
To meet the spouses, the parents prepare new beautiful glasses, from which no one drank. They are put on a long distance, next to it - red wine or champagne, a symbol of a sweet married life. Young people take glasses, fill them with a drink, while listening to parting words from their parents. The spouses cross their right arms, holding glasses in them, and drain the contents in one gulp. This symbolizes the intertwining of destinies and the beginning of the honeymoon. Then the newlyweds turn over their left shoulder and forcefully throw the glasses on the ground. However, the last action is no longer obligatory today, and the spouses leave hand-painted wine glasses as a keepsake.
Step 4
The ritual part is over. Now everyone is letting the young people go ahead and they are followed into the hall to the festive table. Parents and guests can throw coins, grain, sweets at the feet of the newlyweds, flower petals, confetti on their heads.
