Angel Day is also called name day or name day. This is one of the most important days for an Orthodox Christian, which is the day of the heavenly patron of man - the saint whose name is given to a Christian at baptism.

Step 1
If you want to know the day of the name day or the angel, refer to the church calendar or saints. Angel Day is the day following the birthday of the saint whose name the Christian bears. So, for example, Anna, who was born on November 20, will have Angel's day on December 3 - i.e. the day after the birthday, on which Saint Anna is remembered, and her patroness will be the holy great martyr Anna of Persia. Earlier it was recommended that these days - the birth of a person and the memory of a saint - should be no more than 40 days apart from each other. But if these days there is no memory of such a saint, still choose the closest date in time after birth.
Step 2
Find out, if possible, how you were given the name. Often, parents choose a name for their child in advance, having a special love for one of the saints, and then the day of the Angel is no longer associated with the birthday.
Step 3
When determining the day of the Angel, take into account one more nuance: at the Council of Bishops in 2000, the New Martyrs Confessors of Russia were glorified. So if you were baptized before 2000, choose your saint from among the saints glorified before 2000. For example, if your name is Catherine and you were baptized before the glorification of the new martyrs, then your saint will be St. great martyr Catherine. If you were baptized after the Council, then choose Saint Catherine, the date of memory of which is closer to your birthday.

Less used, but acceptable is the tradition of choosing a name day, in accordance with the day of honoring a particularly revered famous saint, regardless of the proximity of the location of this day to the person's birthday. For example, if the child's name is Yaroslav and he was born on October 2, 2006, then his Angel day may be March 5, when Yaroslav the Wise is honored, canonized on December 8, 2005.
