Three living legends of modern cinema - directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, film actor Harison Ford - in 1981 gave birth to a new cult movie hero - Indiana Jones. The invariable attributes, without which it is now difficult to imagine an archaeologist and adventurer, are his whip and hat.
Bonhams auctioned a whip that was used in the filming of the very first film in the series about the adventures of an archaeologist and artifact hunter - Indiana Jones: In Search of the Lost Ark. The authenticity of this lot is confirmed by an accompanying note drawn up by Keith West, the special effects specialist of that picture. The note states that this is exactly the props used by actor Harison Ford and his stunt doubles. The film was released in 1981, and the next two were filmed in 1984 and 1989. For the filming of these three pictures, the whips from 2 m 40 cm to 3 m long were made of woven calfskin with handles and wrist loops by the same man - David Morgan. In the fourth film - "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" - released in 2008, several whips were already involved, on which a whole group of specialists worked.
Bidding with the participation of lots, united in the thematic block Hollywood Memorabilia, took place on June 24, 2012 in Los Angeles, USA. The famous "dream factory" - Hollywood - is located in one of the districts of this Californian city. Lot # 1162 for $ 31,250 was purchased by a buyer who did not want to publish his name. It is only known that the new owner of the Indiana Jones whip is from Russia. In domestic currency, the amount paid by him at the rate of the Central Bank slightly exceeds one million rubles.
Of course, if you are not so picky, you can get a product called "Indiana Jones Whip" and cheaper - it is available in stores, and it is even easier to find them on the Internet. It will cost about a million rubles less than lot # 1162 at Bonhams - for example, a whip complete with a Rubie's Costume Indiana Jones hat will cost you 1,500 rubles without shipping.
