The wedding day, as many people say, is one of the happiest of their lives. The topic of "legitimizing" relationships began to develop when the first man and woman appeared. Various wedding traditions have come a long way from primacy to the present day.
Initially, the term "wedding" appeared during the time of Ancient Rome and other ancient states. There, the bridesmaids and the bride herself were dressed up in the same clothes to scare away evil demons that could interfere with happiness in marriage. White for the bride's dress came from Greece, where it was a symbol of prosperity and well-being.
The veil symbolized chastity, so when remarriage, which was a very rare case, women were forbidden to wear a veil.
The rings came from Egypt. They were considered a sign of "eternity" and prophesied a long life together.
Previously, girls were issued mostly without their consent (in childhood, before puberty). There was only one reason for the wedding - an agreement between the parents of the young man and the girl. Often this was done by calculation: to ensure the future of his beloved daughter.
It was then that the well-known "typical" wedding ceremonies and traditions began to form: matchmaking, bride price and others. However, modernity has slightly modified them.
If now the topic of a dowry is of little concern to few people, then in ancient times a small dowry could significantly spoil a girl's life, so the parents of the future wife sometimes began to prepare a dowry right from her birthday.
Since about the 13th century, weddings have spread such a custom as the wedding. Since the church at that time was quite authoritative, it was forbidden to dissolve married marriages.
By the way, about omissions and divorce. For treason, a girl or a young man could be hanged as well as for theft, robbery or murder. At that time, there was no clear-cut border between crimes.
And already in the Middle Ages, prototypes of "bachelorette parties" and "bachelor parties" appeared. They were also held a few days before marriage. The young people had fun, danced and feasted, celebrated the upcoming wedding and said goodbye to their freedom.
It is incredibly interesting to study history and follow the formation of traditions and generally accepted rules. The history of weddings stretches back to the times of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. So the ransoms of the Olympic goddesses turned into celebrations of modern people of the 21st century.
