Youth Day is an annual national Russian holiday and is celebrated on June 27. Initially, it was celebrated on the last Sunday of June, and in some cities this tradition has been preserved to this day, despite the presidential decree to postpone its date.

The history of the holiday began over fifty years ago. For the first time, Youth Day was held back in 1958. Moreover, a few months before that, its creation was officially confirmed in the corresponding Decree of the Government of the USSR. At that time, Youth Day was celebrated annually every last Sunday in June.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the situation changed slightly. The President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin issued an official order, according to which the entire population should now celebrate the Day of Youth on June 27.
The younger generation is the future of any country. That is why the Government is trying in every way to show support for persons who have reached the age of majority. At the moment, the possibilities of young people and the range of guarantees from the state have significantly expanded. In many educational institutions, special interviews began to be arranged, at which employers, even during their studies, select the most talented students for further employment. This event is carried out with the aim of combating unemployment.
Young families are not ignored by the Government. The state provides substantial assistance in purchasing housing, improving housing conditions and supporting motherhood.
Features of the holiday
Youth Day is a national holiday and should be celebrated in all Russian cities. This event is not only accompanied by mass celebrations, concerts and other social events, but also traditionally covered in numerous media. Published interviews with heads of administration are generally considered to be some kind of reports that the public should be familiar with.
There are stable problems among the younger generation of all times: smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction and unemployment. Youth Day, in a sense, was created to address these and other issues. For example, a Presidential Decree establishes a certain framework for the celebration of this day. Among them, the mandatory presence of sports events in the entertainment program, which are held with the aim of introducing young people to a healthy lifestyle.
Very often, on Youth Day, special actions are held against drug addiction, smoking or alcoholism. Such events are usually organized by youth organizations and social movements.
It is noteworthy that June 27 Youth Day is celebrated in South Ossetia, and Belarus and Ukraine celebrate it on the last Sunday of June. Similar holidays are present in the culture of many countries. May 19, Youth Day is celebrated in Turkey, May 4 - in China, June 16 in South Africa.
