Frederick Cook is the alleged discoverer of the Arctic

American physician and traveler was born on June 10, 1865, from the age of 25 he took part in the exploration of the north. His first expedition was a wintering trip to Greenland led by Robert Peary. There Cook learned to live in the north, to ski. Later he undertook independent travels along the shores of Greenland, to Antarctica and to Alaska.

Cook's main career event was a trip to the North Pole in 1908. According to the traveler, he became the first person in the Arctic. However, this fact is still refuted by scientists - there is not a single proof that Cook appeared there before his main rival, Robert Peary.

Tikhon Khrennikov - the birth of Soviet music

Tikhon Khrennikov managed to survive the entire Soviet era - the composer was born on June 10, 1913, before the October Revolution, and died in 2007, already in our century. The peculiarities of Soviet ideology were also reflected in his work. Khrennikov's music embodies the ideals of the socialist "bright future" - optimism, cheerfulness, major intonations, some bravura and polished simplicity.

Unlike many Soviet composers who tried to fit their compositions into an ideological framework, Khrennikov did it with talent and ease. Therefore, his works are considered classics of the Soviet period.

Although Khrennikov supported the line of the CPSU and participated in the persecution of objectionable composers, in the last years of his life he spoke out rather sharply about the leaders of the Soviet era.

Lyudmila Zykina - the voice of the era

The soulful song about the Volga, first performed in 1963, became the singer's calling card. However, in addition to this composition, Zykina's repertoire included more than 2000 songs. The artist performed touching romances, folk songs and later, Soviet compositions stylized as folk songs.

Already at the age of 34, Zykina received the title of Honored Artist of the USSR, about 20 films were dedicated to her. The artist also wrote several books. Throughout her life, she communicated closely with the ruling circles - she was friends with Stalin, she knew Brezhnev and Khrushchev. But Zykina criticized the policies of Gorbachev and Yeltsin. The artist was married 4 times, but did not give birth to children.

Lyudmila Zykina founded a charitable foundation that still exists today.

Ilya Glazunov - Founder of the Academy of Painting

The Soviet and Russian painter was born on June 10, 1930, he received mixed reviews from critics. Someone sees in the works of Glazunov an outstanding talent, while others reproach the painter for his absence. The main theme of the artist's work was the motives of ancient Orthodox Russia.

Despite the unpopularity of such works in Soviet times, Glazunov managed to gain fame. His works are characterized by an abundance of details, scale and special icon-painting style. In 1987 the artist opened the Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
