Every year Bulgaria hosts an art festival that brings together tourists from all over the world to its sites. At this event, everyone will find something to do and enjoy.
The Apollonia Art Festival is the largest event held in one of the seaside towns in Bulgaria in late August - early September. Every year, art lovers from all over the world, including Asia and America, flock here. Those who wish can not only bask in the rays of the warm southern sun, but also enjoy a rich cultural program representing the traditional and modern realities of Bulgarian art.
The festival takes place in the town of Sozopol, located on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast. In ancient times it was called Apollonia, hence the name for the holiday. According to another version, the name of the ten-day festival was given in honor of the Greek god, the luminous patron of the arts, Apollo.
For the first time, the festival as the largest event in the whole of Bulgaria was held in 1984. The idea of creating a holiday for the country and guests belonged to several proactive art workers who traditionally spend the "velvet season" in Sozopol. On their initiative, the city turned into a huge concert hall for 10 days, where eminent and novice Bulgarian and foreign musicians, singers, poets, actors, writers, photographers and painters could demonstrate their art to the general public. And in 1991, the Apollonia Art Festival received official status from the Arts Foundation.
During the festival in Sozopol, concerts of jazz, folk and classical music, film screenings, vernissages, master classes, recitals, mini-performances, exhibitions, literary readings and discussions, performances are held on improvised open-air stages. On these days, the antique amphitheater "Apollonia" is used for performances, where there is excellent acoustics and several thousand seats for spectators. This building plays a special role in what is happening in Sozopol during the festival; the performances and performances staged there personify the continuity of culture, the transition from classical approaches to new trends and trends.
An equally important part of the festival are exhibitions and meetings held at the Art Gallery. As a rule, star Bulgarian and foreign artists perform there, who consider it an honor to participate in the celebration.
Poetic and literary discussions and performances, as well as the announcement and presentation of new works to the general public are held at the Paisiy Hilendarsky Archaeological Museum and Cultural House. Within the framework of the festival of arts, there is also the Children's Apollonia, intended only for children. The organizers are very attentive and serious about participation in the celebration of children of different ages and make every effort to ensure that they find something interesting and exciting for themselves.
In 2019, the Apollonia Art Festival starts on August 29.
