The predecessor of one of the most beloved holidays in Russia - Shrovetide was called in another way - a comedy and was celebrated even in pagan times on the days of the spring equinox. But after the adoption of Christianity by the church, a new holiday was introduced. Christian Shrovetide takes place 7 weeks before Easter. Despite the religious background, many elements from paganism have been preserved in it - folk festivals, the solemn burning of Marena-winter, etc. But it was also a holiday that every family tried to celebrate with dignity.

It is necessary

  • - straw or cloth;
  • - scraps of fabric;
  • - threads;
  • - pieces of yarn or foam rubber;
  • - fabric strips.

Instructions

Step 1

Start your celebration of Shrovetide with its main attribute - baking pancakes. Surely your family has its own recipe for this dish. Try making pancakes with your kids. Teach them how to stir the dough, show them how to pour it into a frying pan, turn it over. Be sure to talk about family traditions, including culinary traditions, that are passed down from one generation to the next.

Step 2

If you can, take your children to the snow slide or swing. It's good to spend at least a few hours with them. Play, run, make a snowman out of the snow, arrange a "battle" with them with snowballs.

Step 3

Try with the younger family members to make the traditional Marena straw doll, symbolizing winter. Straw in urban environments can be replaced with other materials at hand. For example, sew a long bag from an old piece of fabric and stuff it with unnecessary shreds, yarn, or foam. It is even easier to roll up a small rug or "swaddle" a sofa cushion. Tie the threads where the future doll should have a head and waist.

Step 4

Dress up the doll in bright patches, tie a handkerchief to her. You can cut strips from fabric, braid them in pigtails and attach them to your doll's head. Its appearance depends entirely on your imagination, and the children will be happy to help you with this. After Marena is ready, put her in a place of honor and put a treat in front of her - beautifully rolled pancakes.

Step 5

In addition to pancakes, these days you can cook pancakes, smelt "cockerels" from sugar and even make your own sweets. This process will delight both you and the children. These days, you should more often pamper babies with various sweets.

Step 6

Invite guests to your house for pancakes, because Shrovetide is distinguished by extraordinary hospitality and treats from friends and relatives.

Step 7

Be sure to visit your parents and other relatives this week, and also invite them to your place. Tell the children that on the days of Shrovetide people “threw out old grievances” and tried to make peace with their relatives if a relationship had not been established with one of them before. On this holiday, it is necessary to forgive all insults and voluntary and involuntary insults.

Step 8

Gather together on the last day of Shrovetide with the whole family and arrange a festive ceremony to welcome parents. Dress the kids in some festive outfits; you can learn verses and sayings suitable for this case with them. Instruct them to bring pancakes to their grandparents on a painted tray.
