School contests are a sore point for many teachers. Children need to be coordinated, pacified, forced to do what is needed, forced to take the initiative … So much trouble! And at the same time, you still need to prepare prizes, invite parents, the administration and, finally, come up with the contests themselves.

Step 1
First, you need to decide for which age group you will be conducting contests. Agree, contests for high school students and for first graders will be different. It hardly makes sense to hold some kind of competition or competition between two different age groups: strength, experience, age will win, and elementary school will be left with a nose.
Step 2
Think over the topic of the competition and write a detailed script. Do not spare time and effort for this: later it will become a good help for you, since this is a plan on which some invented details will be strung along the way. Decide what the scope of the competition will be: will it unite, say, all third graders in the school, or will it only take one class. Both in the first and in the second case, you can have fun, having fun with the children and giving them the opportunity to evaluate their abilities, but you must agree that when you participate in a school-wide event, there is more honor, and it is more interesting to compete, and in case of victory, glory is ensured for the whole school. Children need to be prepared for this.
Step 3
In your script (or as an attachment to it - it's more convenient for someone), include a list of those items, materials that you may need. Make a list of the rooms you might need. How many classrooms, what halls, gym, music or work room - all this will depend on the specifics and topics of the competition. This must be thought out in advance in the smallest detail, so that on the day of the competition, no Aunt Dunya from the back room would obstruct, refusing to give you a key to some of the necessary premises.
Step 4
Preparation for the competition is a very important stage, but the competition itself is even more important. Make sure none of the participants get bored. Boredom is contagious: one gets distracted, two or three of his friends are with him, and all the drive is lost. Use music that is fast, energetic, especially when the contestants need to think quickly, run, while working in a team or alone. By the way, if a particular competition is held in groups, then you need to form them so that there are no irreconcilable enemies in one group and that each has a leader who will lead the group.
Step 5
In conducting the competition, a lot will depend on your own energy. Students are guided by their teachers, especially if they are younger students. You will have to set the tone and even turn into children to some extent. The children will have to be “brought on” with something, so that they rush around, play, submit their ideas and immediately embody them with zeal. You need to start this pipeline of fresh ideas, and then only restrain its inexorable progress.
