New Year is not only a fabulous and long-awaited holiday, but also an amazing time, which gives a huge scope for joint creativity with children. A bright and funny sock snowman will create a festive atmosphere in the house, will become a unique interior decoration or an original gift for friends.
In order to make a cute snowman out of a sock with your own hands, it does not take much time and specific skills in handling a needle and thread. For creativity, you need white and colored socks or knee-highs, bright buttons, beads, applique paper, any cereal available in the house.
White socks with a cut off heel are used as the basis for the craft - only the upper part of the jersey, turned inside out, is involved in the work. One edge of the canvas is tightly pulled together with an elastic band or sewn with a thread, after which it is turned onto the front side, forming a semblance of a small bag that will serve as the body of a snowman.
The workpiece placed vertically is filled to the top with cereals - rice, millet or pearl barley. To prevent bugs from getting in the cereal, it is recommended to add a small amount of coarse salt to it. After that, the upper part of the sock is also tied tightly with a thread, as well as the lower one.
At this stage, you can make a snowman out of a sock not only bright and beautiful, but also emitting festive aromas: for this, cereals are mixed with ground cinnamon powder, vanilla, coffee, or a few drops of your favorite essential oil or liquid flavoring used for making confectionery are added.
The resulting workpiece is divided into two unequal parts - the head and the body, tightly tightening with a thread at the junction of both balls. There is another option for forming the base of a snowman: in the work, not an elastic band of the sock is used, but its toe, at the base of which a dense circle of cardboard is laid. The cardboard gives the figure additional stability and prevents the snowman from falling on its side.
After the base of the snowman from the sock is ready, they begin to decorate the toy. Eyes made of small buttons or beads are sewn to the upper ball; using a glue gun, a nose made of a colored pencil lead or half of a toothpick is fixed. If desired, the nose can also be made from a bead that is larger than the eyes.
The front or rounded heel part is cut off from a bright colored sock and put on the snowman's head with one or two turns, like a hat. The hat can be collected with beautiful folds, decorated with pom-poms or tassels. An even part of the sock is worn on the body of the toy, like a sweater.
The clothes of a ready-made snowman from a sock are decorated with decorative elements: buttons or small patch pockets are sewn on, bows or scarves are tied.
